Getting Creative with Pretzel Recipes: Strawberry Pretzel Salad

Getting Creative with Pretzel Recipes: Strawberry Pretzel Salad

Whether it’s your go-to movie guilty pleasure or something to throw in your bag to eat on the go, you’ve probably only thought of pretzels for snacking. But if you think outside the box, pretzels can be so much more, a sweet dessert and even a salad.

That’s right, you can make a pretzel salad that’ll impress your family and friends. And we bet not only will your pretzel salad be a hit, but they’ll be coming back for seconds. For today’s recipe, we’ll go with Strawberry Pretzel Pie, a retro treat that has been around since the 1960s, according to the Farmer’s Almanac.

Easy to make, a Strawberry Pretzel Pie is a delightfully contrasting textured combination of sweet and salty.

Shall we get started?

We’ll be using Allrecipes’s Strawberry Pretzel Pie recipe which recommends we set aside 2 hours and 30 minutes including prep time for this fruity pretzel dessert.

Ingredients

  • 2 packages of frozen strawberries or the equivalent of 10 ounces
  • 2 cups of crushed pretzels
  • 2 packages of strawberry-flavored Jell-O or the equivalent of 3 ounces
  • 1 8-ounce container of frozen whipped topping thawed
  • 3/4 cup of melted butter
  • 1 cup of white sugar
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 1 package of cream cheese, softened or the equivalent of 8 ounces
  • 3 tablespoons of white sugar

Now that we have all of our ingredients let's get the prepping done and then onto baking!

Directions

Let’s start by preheating our oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. While the oven is preheating let's move on to Step 2.

let's stir our pretzels pretzels, 3 tablespoons of sugar, and the melted butter until they're well combined. Once it’s mixed well, we'll press the mixture into the bottom of a 9-inch by 13-inch baking dish.

Next, let’s bake it in the oven for 8 to 10 minutes until it’s set. Remove from the oven and set aside to cool.

In a large bowl combine the One Cup of sugar and cream cheese, and with an electric mixer beat it until it's smooth. Next, we're going to fold in the whipped topping and spread the mixture onto a cooled crust.

For the last step let's dissolve the gelatin in boiling water and stir in the frozen strawberries. We’ll allow that to set briefly before pouring it and spreading it over the cream cheese layer. Now that we're all done let's cover it up with plastic and refrigerate at least two hours until it’s all set.

Voila, our Strawberry Pretzel pie is done! It’s the perfect dish for that family reunion or next time it’s your turn to make a potluck contribution. And remember for all your pretzels needs or gift ideas, pretzels.com has something for everyone.
